Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Japan-China Friendship Center Art Museum for its free admission and the educational value of its exhibitions, particularly the 'Chang'an Night Banquet' which vividly recreates Tang Dynasty life. The detailed explanations and photo-friendly environment are also highlighted as significant positives. While the museum is highly regarded, some may find the focus on restored items rather than original artifacts a minor point, though this doesn't detract from the overall positive experience.

"I went to see the "Chang'an Night Banquet - Food, Clothing, and Shelter of the Tang Dynasty." As the subtitle suggests, the exhibition is inspired by (or perhaps recreates) a night banquet during the Tang Dynasty.
The exhibits were all incredibly beautiful, including dazzling costumes and ornaments, golden metalware, Tang Sancai pottery, and musical instruments. I also saw a video of the "Hu Xuan Dance," a dance popular during the Tang Dynasty. It was very dynamic and reminiscent of modern belly dancing. I believe the Tang Dynasty saw the introduction of various exotic cultural artifacts from the Western Regions, which led to the development of this international and exotic culture.
The exhibit was truly magnificent, but I felt something was missing. Asking myself why, I believe it's because the items on display, with the exception of four special exhibits, have been restored to modern times. However, to be clear, I'm not criticizing this exhibition in any way. These kinds of items are rarely seen, the explanations about the food and alcohol are very interesting, and admission is free, so I think it's well worth going to see this exhibition."

"One weekday, I went to the Japan-China Friendship Center in Iidabashi.

Official 💁‍♀️ @jcfcmuseum

I went to see the "Chang'an Night Banquet" exhibition (running from October 11th to December 1st, 2024) held there.

This exhibition showcases the luxurious lifestyles of the aristocracy, primarily in Chang'an, the capital of China during the Tang Dynasty.

There was a wide selection of clothing, tableware, musical instruments, and more from the period.

Not only did the exhibits feature items, but they also provided detailed explanations.

This allowed me to fully understand the historical background and the intricate lifestyles of the time.

There were also various theories about women's hairstyles of the time.

Honestly, this was the first time I'd seen such a precise and detailed explanation.

There were a variety of items, including tableware, hair ornaments, jewels, and stationery.

The complete absence of swords and armor used in battle seems to symbolize the peacefulness of the era.

Well, even so, there were so many exhibits worth seeing.

I stayed there for about two hours, looking at them carefully, and I was surprised that it was all completely free."

"December 1, 2024, afternoon visit

The museum is located on the first floor of the Korakuen International Building, near Iidabashi Station and next to Korakuen.
On that day, I came here after seeing Korakuen.
A Chinese night banquet was being held at the venue until the day of the event, and there were a lot of people there.
Admission is free, and there are explanations of Chang'an during the Tang Dynasty and exhibits of costumes, food, and customs, so you can learn a lot about Chang'an at that time.
I was happy to be able to take photos at the venue."
