"Although the weather didn’t allow us to see the majestic Mt. Fuji in its glory, the view from the viewing deck of the Tagonoura Port wasn’t any less beautiful. I recommend going there on a warm, sunny day though."

🍁🥾 "I'm definitely going to try some raw shirasu!!" I walked from Central Park to Tagonoura Port.
🗻 Along the way, I was captivated by the spectacular view of Mt. Fuji.
🏭️ From the bridge, I gazed upon the daytime factories, centered around a paper mill.
🌃 After successfully enjoying the "raw and boiled shirasu," I took the Gakunan Railway to see the factories in operation at night."

"The setting for "Godzilla vs. Hedorah."
Hedorah, a pollution monster born from a polluted port, grows larger as it absorbs sludge and industrial smog that spills into the sea. This film was made in the 1950s and 60s, when pollution was a major issue, during the so-called "Four Major Pollution Disasters."
Untreated water from approximately 150 paper plants in the Tagonoura area flowed into the area, causing an estimated 1 million tons of sludge to accumulate. It's a place worthy of being the setting for "Godzilla vs. Hedorah"!
I wonder what it's like now, 30 years later? 20 years ago, it was a well-known spot for lure fishing with the intention of releasing fish. I remember the seawater in the harbor looking normal, despite a strange smell. Now, Tagonoura seems to have a well-established image as a clean place. The river mouth is full of anglers, and the large, beautiful park is bustling with activity.
The Suruga Bay Ferry was originally located in Tagonoura. Considering the strong smell of chemicals and the reviews from people who come from all over the country, perhaps it was actually a good thing that they moved to Shimizu Port?"
