I’ve been a bit quiet on here lately because… I was off exploring Japan! 🇯🇵 And, of course, no trip is complete without a visit to the races — this time, Nakayama Racecourse 🏇. Getting there was super easy — I hopped on a train to JR Funabashi-Hoten Station, followed by a short walk through a tunnel that leads directly to the track. GA entry was just ¥200 (around $2 AUD), and there was plenty of ...

Reviews Summary

Nakayama Racecourse offers a vibrant and accessible horse racing experience, praised for its passionate atmosphere and helpful staff who assist international visitors. While the Turfy shop's merchandise is appealing, navigating it without Japanese language skills can be a challenge. Overall, it's a fun and engaging destination for both racing fans and casual tourists.

"Having come here for the G1 Sprinter’s Stakes of 2025, I would say the Nakayama Racecourse is certainly quite a unique place to be.

First of, getting there has two methods, one way is to get to Higashinakayama station, where you would have to take a shuttle service to the race course, and the other way is to take a JR line (but I honestly forgot which)

Overall, it was quite the experience, the racecourse is massive, and the people that go there certainly are passionate about horse racing. The Turfy shop is a good place to pick up cute merch, but unless you could read kanji/understand the kanji of your favourite horse it would be a bit difficult to buy."

"I have never been to a Horse Track before but this was such a fun time. The staff kindly printed an english guide for the day. Playground for the kids and plenty of food and racing on the day to keep you occupied. If you're thinking about going, I highly suggest it"

Sean Fuhrer

"Information staff is very helpful for foreigners who just want to tour and watch the horses races. Entry was free and payment required for seating to watch races. But there many places to watch the races for free without needing a seat."
