What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Former Hachiman Government Building Memorial Hall for its exceptional hospitality, particularly the delightful complimentary soup tasting and the incredibly friendly and helpful staff. It's seen as a perfect resting spot and a valuable source of local information, though the selection of famous fake food souvenirs is limited compared to other shops.
"Gujo Hachiman Kyu-Chōsha Kinenkan is a charming and peaceful stop that offers a glimpse into the town’s history, with a nice touch of hospitality. One of the highlights was the free tasting of a warm, flavorful soup — likely ayu (sweetfish) soup — which felt comforting after walking around in the cool mountain air. The souvenir section is quite varied, with plenty of local snacks, crafts, and regional specialties. However, if you’re looking for the famous fake food (plastic food replicas) that Gujo is known for, the selection here is a bit limited compared to other souvenir shops nearby. Still, the atmosphere is calm, the staff are kind, and it’s a pleasant place to explore and pick up a few unique items."

"Gujo Hachiman Castle Town Plaza is a fantastic place to visit. Staff are friendly and seem happy to see visitors. They have maps and information booklets available on the Gujo Odori dance. As well as restaurant information and area info. Gujo Hachiman makes a great day trip from Gifu City and this is the place to start your day.
They do sell some gifts from the area as well including some high quality fabrics dyed the traditional wa and other local crafts. The Castle Town Plaza is a attractive building surrounded by bridges and beautiful clear water. Do yourself a huge favor and stop by to ask some questions or shop. Then enjoy one of the most beautiful towns in all of Japan!"
