"Yanaka Lane @ Gujō Hachiman 🇯🇵 – Charming Water Alley After Igawa Lane, With Koi-Filled Canals 🐟💧

After feeding the giant koi at Igawa Lane, we continued strolling to Yanaka Lane on 16 April around 2:15 PM. This peaceful stone-paved path truly captured the essence of Gujō Hachiman as a “Water City”—with canals running beside traditional wooden homes and beautiful koi fish swimming right along the roadside.

🐟 The koi here are just as stunning—huge, colorful, and gliding through crystal-clear water. It’s amazing to see such clean water and active aquatic life right next to the pedestrian path.

🌿 The quiet ambiance, gentle stream, and Edo-style architecture made this a relaxing family moment. My child enjoyed spotting the fish, and the path itself was easy and pleasant to walk.

This area of Gujō Hachiman beautifully blends nature, tradition, and community—a must-visit part of town that truly lives up to its name as Japan’s “water city.”"

"In Gujo Hachiman, Yanaka Lane is a serene and lovely location right before you get to the main town. This little section has a tiny shrine and winding lanes with running, pure water where you can cool off, especially during the summer months. The surrounds enhance the nostalgic appeal of old Japan with their traditional homes and calm atmosphere. Visitors can better appreciate the town's historic aura and uncomplicated, natural beauty by taking this peaceful excursion."

"Gujo is known as “Water City” for good reason. We spotted some koi in some random “longkang” while strolling through the area.

For this Yanaka lane, it is smaller than I expected and I did not see any koi during my visit, so it felt more like a short, pleasant stop rather than a must-visit highlight."
