What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Appi Kogen offers a vast ski experience with excellent powder snow, appealing to both families and avid skiers. While the ANA InterContinental is praised for modernity, the ANA Crowne Plaza, though older, provides a classic resort feel with dedicated staff. Dining can be pricey, and some guests note dated facilities at the Crowne Plaza.
"We think this isn’t a hotel worthy of four stars. The hotel is old, with old furniture and terrible beds. The heating in the room cannot be turned off so our room was 26C also at night.
The service is very average for a Japanese hotel. For example, when we arrived, with many suitcases, the male bell person didn’t make any attempt to help. He was not busy, just standing by his desk. The mostly non-Japanese staff in the hotel is uninterested and seem to not understand what working in a service profession means.
The breakfast restaurant staff is very professional and correct.
The restaurants are of course very expensive as you are captive in the hotel - there are no other restaurants around (except at the Intercontinental). We had Teppanyaki, which was very good, but far from exceptional, and paid JPY 40,000 for two.
We will seek other accommodation in the area next time."

"My family and I had an absolutely incredible stay at ANA Crowne Plaza Appi Kogen from August 10-17, 2025. This resort exceeded all our expectations and provided us with memories that will last a lifetime.
We traveled with my wife and three children (ages 17, 13, and 11), including my eldest daughter who was recovering from a basketball injury and using crutches. From the moment we mentioned this during our booking for the Appi Kogen Film Festival, the staff went above and beyond to ensure her comfort and safety.
Outstanding Staff and Service:
The level of hospitality we experienced was truly exceptional. Special mention goes to Ren and Nicole, who provided extraordinary care during the film festival and fireworks display on August 16th. Nicole's dedication was remarkable - she personally guided us with a torch, walked at my daughter's pace, and protected her from crowds without ever making her feel rushed. This kind of personal attention made us feel like VIP guests.
The Front Desk/Reception staff and APPI Explore counter team were equally impressive. The English-speaking international staff made communication seamless throughout our stay, and every team member we encountered was genuinely warm and helpful.
Memorable Experiences:
The fireworks display was absolutely spectacular, and the film festival was well-organized. The resort's location and facilities are perfect for families, and we're already planning to return this winter for the ski and snowboarding programs.
Why We'll Return:
The combination of beautiful facilities, stunning location, and world-class service created such a welcoming, homely atmosphere. The staff's genuine care and attention to detail made us feel truly valued as guests. This isn't just a hotel stay - it's an experience that touches your heart.
Highly Recommended:
If you're looking for exceptional hospitality, beautiful surroundings, and staff who genuinely care about making your stay special, ANA Crowne Plaza Appi Kogen is the perfect choice. We will definitely be returning and recommending this resort to everyone we know.
Thank you to the entire team for making our family vacation so special!

"The hotel is old and pricey, we booked a three person room, one of us had to sleep on a couch that was made as a bed. The beds were also hard and uncomfortable. When arriving at the hotel we couldn't store our luggage at the front desk we had to walk for quite some time to find the place in B1 where to store our luggage before checking in.
The meal was included in our reservation, however if you choose to pay it later it's a bit pricey. Generally, the food selection was good.. the buffet style breakfast and dinner had a variety of Japanese and Chinese food, although the food was the same for the two days of our stay."
