Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Oizumi Panorama-no-Yu for its stunning panoramic views of Mt. Fuji and the Southern Alps from the outdoor baths, especially on clear days. The facility is noted for being clean with a good atmosphere, offering a relaxing experience with indoor and outdoor pools, a cold bath, and a sauna. Some find the view best when standing, which can be chilly, and note that bushes may slightly obscure the scenery.

"Visited yesterday with my two teenage boys . We had been trekking and needed an Onsen . It was perfect great indoor out door baths , a cold bath plus a sauna . Not too busy and clean and great atmosphere.
Boys back again tonight with grandparents and uncle"

Mark David Milburn

"Small, local onsen with outdoor baths (露天風呂) which on a clear day has a panoramic view of the Southern Alps range. At night or on a cloudy day, not so much :-)"

Toby Phipps

"The “panorama” has to be interpreted with caution: If you stand in the bath, you have indeed beautiful scenery and you can see Fuji as well as some other mountains and red leaves at the time I went, but you get cold very quickly if you are not in the water. If you sit in the water, you cannot see the view. Management has planted some bushes in front of the bath (why????? They did not even need to be worried about people peeking at the bathers as the place is higher than the surroundings and there is nothing except for beautiful scenery around!).

The place did have a sauna, but I did not try it. In Japan, saunas are covered entirely with towels from the establishment, and they are not exchanged after each guest’s use (unlike in most other countries, where you bring your own towel). I always find it unhygienic, so I never use the sauna. This is a common thing with all onsens I have been to though in Japan, so not specifically to this establishment."

The 'Panorama' Experience

The main draw of Oizumi Panorama-no-Yu is its namesake 'panorama' view. On a clear day, the outdoor baths offer a spectacular vista of the Southern Alps and, most notably, Mt. Fuji. Visitors often describe the view as breathtaking, especially when the weather is cooperative. Reddit

However, it's important to manage expectations. The 'panorama' is best appreciated when standing in the water, which can be quite cold, especially during cooler months. Some reviewers note that bushes have been planted, potentially obstructing the view slightly, though the primary concern for bathers is the temperature contrast between the hot water and the air. Reddit

Despite these nuances, the opportunity to soak in therapeutic hot springs while gazing at iconic Japanese landscapes is a unique and memorable experience that many travelers seek out. The combination of natural beauty and relaxation makes it a worthwhile stop.

Onsen Etiquette and Comfort

Visiting a Japanese onsen like Oizumi Panorama-no-Yu involves understanding local customs. Before entering any bath, it's crucial to wash your body thoroughly at the provided washing stations. This ensures the hot spring water remains clean for everyone. Reddit

Saunas are also available, but be aware that Japanese sauna practices might differ from what you're accustomed to. Towels are often provided by the establishment and are communal, which some international visitors find less hygienic than bringing their own. This is a common practice across many Japanese onsens. Reddit

Overall, the facility is described as clean and having a good atmosphere, making it a pleasant experience for those who respect and follow onsen etiquette. The presence of indoor and outdoor baths, a cold bath, and a sauna caters to various preferences for relaxation and rejuvenation.
