"It was the heat of the day and we didn't see a single person (lol), but we visited Horinouchi Shell Mound as a trio with the History Museum and the Archaeological Museum. Even though it's in the city, it has a very secluded atmosphere.

Personally, I'd considered it a famous shell mound since before the war, as a standard archaeological site alongside the Kasori Shell Mound, but I'm grateful that it has been able to maintain its current state.

This is from the Late Jomon period, so I imagine that people lived a prosperous life here over 3,000 years ago, and I imagine that there must have been people who were just as annoyed by the sound of cicadas. That was the feeling I had as I spent that summer day."

"Shell mounds where you can walk on top of them are rare even across the country. The diversity of trees is also refreshing. This is a shell mound that we would like to preserve for future generations."
