What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Geibikei Gorge boat ride for its breathtaking scenery, the unique charm of the singing boatman, and the interactive fun of feeding ducks and fish. The well-structured trip and the staff's entertaining explanations are frequently highlighted as positives. Some minor drawbacks include the briefness of the halfway stop and the language barrier for non-Japanese speakers, though an English map can help.
"This boat experience comes highly recommended! The boat itself is larger than expected and kept in good condition. The staff are excellent; they provide informative explanations about the area and keep passengers entertained.
The total trip is well-structured: 30 minutes of sailing out, a 20-minute stop for a walk (which flies by!), and 30 minutes for the return sail. Along the entire route, the scenic views, ambient sounds, and atmosphere are incredibly beautiful. A highlight is the return trip when the staff sing a lovely song detailing the four seasons of Geibikei Gorge.
Tip: Purchasing your ticket through a tourist agency like Klook is cheaper and very easy to redeem on-site."

"Cheery boat ride along the tranquil gorge. Perhaps it was not the best time to come (mid oct) as the autumn colours have yet to set in yet, and there was also no mist (mist is often mentioned in the description of how various parts of the gorge got its name). Still an enjoyable trip with ducklings and huge fishes accompanying the journey. The boatman was also cheerily entertaining the almost entirely domestic audience, and also serenading us with a song at the end. A pity I didn’t understand Japanese, but it was a fun experience nonetheless.
I bought on klook - about a hundred yen off."

"This River Ride in Geibikei Gorge was one of the best I've ever had so far. I visited this place as part of a tour with friends guided by a Japanese driving instructor.
The scenery was fantastic, ducks, fishes followed along the way, and you could purchase a small plastic bag with food in case you wanted to feed them. We did and they followed us all the way.
There were many caves along the way, shadows, as the boat rider did a fantastic job with jokes, talking all the time, keeping us amused. He even sang an old song dedicated to Iwate prefecture. A must go, if you come in iwate Prefecture. I only wish we had a little bit more time in the half way rest, so i could take more pictures."
