What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Hozan-ji Temple for its serene atmosphere, beautiful mountain setting, and the charming Ikoma Cable Car ride. The spiritual ambiance and the quaint Monzen Town approach are frequently highlighted as positive aspects, offering a peaceful escape. Some find the temple's accessibility and the surrounding views particularly memorable.
"A fun place to visit for various reasons. First, the ride up the mountain in the cable car provides plenty of great views upwards and downwards. Second, the temple complex itself has lots of winding paths that go on further up the mountain and into the wooded areas. The buildings have a somewhat film set quality to them. Third, the mountain behind the temple rises steeply and adds to the atmosphere. And it was super quiet with almost no one there. Worth a visit."

"Serene and soothing place for walks and prayers.
I first came across this location on Google maps coincidentally. Once I saw the pictures shared by people, I figured I had to go.
Again, by chance my friend asked if I would like to join him on a hike up Mt. Ikoma up to 生駒山上. As impromptu as it is, I agreed immediately.
And thus began our 3 hour hike up hill starting from Shin-ishikiri station to Ikoma Sanjo Amusement Park. Then eventually down to Hozan-ji to end our evening before returning to Ikoma station."

"Wow! It's absolutely amazing! While riding the cable car back down from the amusement park, we stopped to go check this temple out. It's a little walk through the town before you get to the beginning stairs. Here's the kicker, though: you might need to cross-fit train for a few months before going. It is a brutal climb up. Stairs after Stairs, after Stairs, up and up. I thought I was going to pass out, but it pays off. There are many places where you can make offerings, I stopped and burned some incense and asked for help climbing. Once you get into the tree lines, there are, which seemed like 100's of Buddha statues. They may have been Graves, not really sure. There is even one up on the mountainside. Just beautiful! If visiting Nara, this is a must stop. Just be prepared for the walk. it's no joke."
