What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Mount Raizan is highly recommended, especially for its stunning autumn foliage and beginner-friendly hiking trails. Visitors appreciate the panoramic views from the summit and the serene atmosphere around Rai Temple. Some note that trails can be muddy after rain and advise caution regarding vipers.
"Worth going for sure, especially in autumn. Not much sakuras on the way in Sakura season. Be ready for some dirt if it has been raining for the past few days. I saw people even use rope to help each other to go uphill, nice idea to bring one with you. There's convenient bus from Chikuzen-Maebaru st to the Rai temple. You can go from there to mount Rai and Ihara (10-12 km) and then go to another bus stop that goes back to Chikuzen-Maebaru st. On weekend the schedule is 9:10 departure from the station and 17:00 departure back (another bus stop)."

"Reached the summit on June 1st, 2024 in clear skies.
No special equipment required; just a moisture-wicking, quick-drying long-sleeved shirt, regular pants and sneakers. Carrying food and a water bottle.
Traverse from Mt. Ibara's Minashi trailhead to Mt. Ibara to Raizan.
There are no difficult sections, making it a great mountain that even beginners can easily climb.
The traverse from Mt. Ibara is a single path, so it's easy to avoid getting lost and there is little elevation change.
From the Furuba route, you climb on an open path, which is pleasant.
To access the Furuba route, you have to go through a restricted area.
The summit is wide, so even groups can have lunch there.
The views in all directions are not great; only half of it.
Be careful as there are apparently vipers around.
I'm not sure if they were vipers, but I did see two snakes at the trailhead."

"We went to a temple and a shrine. We were able to see the maple trees starting to turn red. It's good that we went early because the traffic jams are so bad during the autumn foliage season."
