The Gionyama Hiking Course is praised for its accessible length and rewarding panoramic coastal views, especially at sunset. While the natural terrain requires sturdy footwear, the hike offers a refreshing escape and a chance to connect with nature. It's a popular addition to any Kamakura itinerary.
"The Gionyama Hiking Course is about 3.8 kilometers long and takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to complete.
The trailheads can be found either in front of the Hara-kiri Yagura of Takatoki or in the grounds of Yakumo Shrine, to the right as you face the shrine.
We started from Yakumo Shrine, known as the oldest shrine in Kamakura for warding off misfortune.
While the trail is well-maintained, much of it is a natural mountain path with some slippery rocky areas, so wearing hiking shoes is recommended for a safe trek.
Although the mountain is only around 150 meters high, the lookout point at the summit offers a beautiful panoramic view of Zaimokuza Beach and Yuigahama’s coastline."
