What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Momijidani Nature Trail for its beautiful, secluded waterfall and the peaceful, lush forest walk. The lack of crowds is a significant draw, offering a tranquil escape. However, the limited parking and the trail's muddy or icy conditions after rain require careful preparation and appropriate footwear.
"Parking lot can take about 9 cars. It seems the parking lot has been expanded. The hike is a bit muddy after wet weather. So if no proper footwear, beware."

"A good spot for a short hike. The distance is 700m and you can cover it in 1.5 hours with a short break at the waterfall. The path is pretty narrow and flat half way and gets a bit rocky and uneven too. There was still ice in some portions of the trail (this is in May). So make sure you have good shoes. The hike was relatively easy in general and the way to the waterfall was green and lush with trees. The waterfall was beautiful and was quite chilly for May. There is a parking lot for few cars. You will definitely need to car to reach this spot since it’s quite tucked in from the other spots in this area. But I feel this spot is better compared to the other two waterfalls Ryusei and Ginga just because of the crowds. This waterfall had no people around which made it a perfect and quiet hike through the terrain."

"Looks like an easy enough hike. Slightly upwards then flat and then steep. Fall leaves season is over (Oct 15 2019) but there are some red leaves still in the very beginning."

👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Pack snacks and water, as amenities are scarce. The short duration of the hike means it won't tire out little ones too much, leaving energy for other island activities. The natural beauty of the forest and the waterfall offers a great opportunity for kids to connect with nature.

Navigating the Trail Conditions
To ensure a comfortable experience, waterproof hiking boots with good traction are highly recommended. Avoid open-toed shoes or flimsy sneakers, as they are ill-suited for the potentially slippery and uneven ground. The trail's natural state offers an authentic hiking experience, but preparedness is key to enjoying its beauty without incident.
Access and Parking: A Local's Perspective
Due to the limited parking, arriving early, especially on weekends or during peak seasons, is crucial. Some visitors have noted that the trail is a short drive from the ropeway station, suggesting it might be a viable option after exploring other parts of the island. However, the lack of public transport options directly to the trailhead reinforces the recommendation for private vehicle access.
