What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Matsuura Riverside is highly praised for its exceptional hospitality, traditional Japanese rooms, and beautiful river views. Guests rave about the polite staff, delicious breakfast, and the relaxing cypress bath. While some rooms lack elevators and bathrooms are compact, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, offering great value and a unique cultural immersion.
"Very very good experience. Super polite and helpful staff. I came here alone. They kindly updated my room so I got an extremely huge room on the first floor with a giant window and a nice balcony. They view is great. Service is great. Will definitely come again with my parents!"

"Nice place, nice room. 1F bathroom is needed to book. It’s tiny but comfy enough to use. Easy to walk to see the Katsura castle."

"I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first booked this place, but the reviews seemed good so we gave it a go. We have had a very pleasant time here and highly recommend staying here if you’re travelling from Fukuoka to Nagasaki and want to rest in between, like we did. This place was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed sleeping on the tatami mats and futon bedding. Views of the lake from our river were outstanding. The room came with a welcome drink on arrival, the most generous breakfast and a 1 hour private cypress bath on the first floor. Our room had its own toilet and bathroom but the cypress bath was a great way to relax after a long day of driving and walking! The owner kindly upgraded us to a larger room which meant plenty of space for 2 people!
We drove into the town for dinner and were surprised by the many options, just a 5 min drive away. We didn’t visit the castle but it was just across the road and a beautiful sight to drive into. This hotel is in a very convenient location! We couldn’t praise this enough.
Do note that there are no elevators to rooms on the second floor. Seems like there could be rooms on the first floor for those with accessibility requirements, please check with hotel first. The free parking bays are located opposite the hotel, across the road- kind of in front of someone else’s house. There’s a laminated sign that says the parking is for riverside hotel karatsu castle.
There is also laundry and dryer machines available to use for free- bring your own detergent or buy from front desk!"
