"The Koyasan Women's Trail is a mountain path that remains from the time when women were prohibited from entering Mount Koya until the early Meiji period.
The approximately 10km trail circles the tomb of Kobo Daishi.
At the time, it is said that, like the Nyonin-do, there were places of worship for women scattered throughout the trail.
Today, it is a great hiking course around the sacred site of Mount Koya.
The trail is well-maintained, and although the route is a little complicated, there are signposts so you don't have to worry about getting lost. There are also many convenient access points to town.
From the southern peak, you can see the ridgeline of the Kii Mountains stretching out to the south."
