Reviews Summary

Jison-in Temple is appreciated for its historical significance as 'Women's Koya' and the starting point of the Choishi-Michi pilgrimage. Visitors enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and free entry. However, some find the hike to be very long and strenuous.

"Great temple with quite important significance. This temple is the beginning point of the Choishimichi pilgrimage trail to Koyasan.

The temple itself is dedicated to women and their health, as women were not allowed into Koyasan until the 1800s. It was dedicated by Kobodaishi to his mother, who could not enter the town.

The hike itself is about 8 hours at a leisurely pace. First 2 hours are quite steep but the rest is quite nice. You can find frogs, mountain crabs, and snakes if you pay attention to the sides of the trail.

Don't forget to bring water."

Christopher M

"An interesting temple which also marks the beginning of the Koyasan Choishi-michi pilgrimage trail which winds up through the forested hills to the very heart of Koyasan."

"Not worth the walk"
