What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Yamahana Onsen Refre is appreciated for its diverse hot spring facilities, including indoor and outdoor baths, and a relaxing sauna. The horseback riding activity is a unique draw, and the on-site restaurant offers convenient dining. However, potential visitors should be aware of conflicting information regarding their tattoo policy, which has been a point of contention for some.
"'People with tattoos are prohibited'. As a Canadian with a large tattoo I find this to be repulsive, exclusionary policy. This is 2021. This is a tourist spot, seemingly open to foreigners. Fortunately, we are all free to bathe at other baths.
The building itself seems to be from a different era. Not ancient. More like a government building from the late 20th century. Children's art was hung in the hallways. Tourist goods were displayed in the foyer.
The surrounding landscape is relatively normal for the area. It seems to be somewhat well-cared for.
However, no amount of good care can make up for the fact that they exclude people based upon appearance alone. Japan is getting more comfortable with inclusion and shedding the hateful ways of old. This establishment does nothing but cling to a dark past and hinder our trajectory into the inclusive future."
