"Road to get there is closed from October 25th 2024 until April 14th 2025"

"It may have been because of the time of year, but there were hardly any people and it was easy to climb, but I was worried about encountering bears. The area from Shinsen-numa to Naganuma was rocky and difficult. Other than that, I think it was a relatively easy mountain to climb (first year in mountain climbing. Climbed 3 mountains. I'm in my early 50s and in good physical condition, it took 3 hours to go and 2 hours to come back). From the summit, you can see Mt. Yotei, Mt. Annupuri, and more. However, when I asked some climbers, they told me that the other trail is a steep slope. Please be careful."

Navigating the Trails: From Gentle Strolls to Steep Ascents
For those seeking a more direct and challenging ascent, the Chisenupuri trailhead offers a shorter, but significantly steeper, round trip of about 2km. This route is ideal for hikers who prefer a quicker climb and don't mind a more strenuous effort. Regardless of your chosen path, the low shrubs lining the trails offer little shade, so sun protection is crucial during warmer months.
Key Takeaway: Choose your trailhead wisely based on your fitness and desired experience. The Shinsen-numa route offers variety, while the Chisenupuri trailhead is for a quick, steep challenge. Always be prepared for the final ascent, which can be demanding.
Best Times to Visit for Views and Comfort
Autumn afternoons present a different kind of magic. The landscape transforms with beautiful colors, and the chance to witness the sunset bathing the mountain in golden light is a significant draw. This time of year generally sees fewer crowds, making for a more peaceful experience. However, be prepared for cooler temperatures and bring warm clothing, as the weather can change rapidly.
Winter transforms Mount Chisenupuri into a backcountry skiing and snowboarding paradise, but access for general hiking is impossible due to road closures and heavy snowfall. For those interested in winter sports, it offers incredible powder and stunning snowy vistas, as seen in some adventurous TikToks.
Wildlife and Trail Safety
The trails themselves can present challenges. They are often described as rocky, and after rain, they can become muddy and slippery. Many sections are covered in mossy rocks, increasing the risk of slips and falls. Proper footwear with excellent grip is therefore essential. In the summer, the presence of water sources along the trail can lead to an abundance of insects, including swarms that can be bothersome, akin to mosquitoes. If you dislike insects, summer hiking might be a tougher experience.
