What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Niseko Annupuri is praised for its excellent beginner terrain and abundant powder snow, offering a less crowded experience compared to other Niseko resorts. Visitors appreciate the scenic views and family-friendly atmosphere, though inter-resort travel can be challenging due to crowded buses or difficult ski routes. Occasional lift closures due to strong winds can also be a concern.
"You need to go through black diamond routes if you are skiing from Grand hirafu to Annupuri. Or you can take a bus which takes a long time to reach. And the bus is very crowded.
A very beautiful place though. It has a vast ski area and not a lot of people on the mountain as most people cannot come over from hirafu.
For a few days, there were strong winds, so the lifts were always closed and we could not visit Annupuri on those days.
Sometimes the lift that brings us higher, after disembarking the gondola, would close early due to weather and we had to take the bus back instead of skiing back, as they warn that the area between hirafu and Annupuri is dangerous to ski back.
There is a big food area at the base, where you can rest and grab some food and beverage.
The staffs at the Gondola lift are friendly and helpful."

"An Unforgettable Ski Experience at An’nupuri, Niseko – March 2025
An’nupuri Niseko is an absolute gem, and my recent ski trip there in March was nothing short of spectacular. Despite the season edging toward spring, the snow cover was still excellent, offering pristine conditions across the mountain. I was lucky enough to score a perfect bluebird day—clear skies, not a breath of wind, and best of all, relatively uncrowded slopes that made for an incredibly enjoyable experience.
What sets An’nupuri apart is its well-balanced variety of runs. From gentle slopes for beginners to more challenging terrain, there’s something for every skill level. The real highlight, though, is Gate 2, where you can hike up to access the untouched backcountry behind the summit. Skiing through Virginia powder and weaving through the trees was an absolute dream—an exhilarating and deeply rewarding experience that any powder enthusiast would appreciate.
Compared to Hirafu, An’nupuri feels underrated, which works in its favor. The lift system is efficient, keeping queues minimal, and everything runs smoothly."

"Took a gondola ride up in early May 2025 as sight seeing ride. A helpful staff directed me to another spot to take pictures of Mt Yotei at the summit."

Understanding Niseko United: More Than Just Annupuri
Connecting these resorts can be done via the Niseko United shuttle bus, which is convenient but can become very crowded. For experienced skiers, there are challenging black diamond routes that link some of the resorts, but these can be dangerous if not navigated properly. Understanding these connections is key to maximizing your Niseko experience, whether you plan to stick to Annupuri's gentle slopes or explore the diverse offerings of the entire Niseko United area.
When planning your trip, consider which resort best suits your skill level and desired atmosphere. Annupuri is a fantastic starting point, especially for those new to skiing or snowboarding, offering a less intimidating environment compared to the busier Grand Hirafu. However, the ability to access the other resorts with a single lift pass (Niseko United Pass) provides incredible variety and ensures you can experience the best of Hokkaido's legendary powder.
The Legendary Niseko Powder: What to Expect
At Niseko Annupuri, this legendary powder translates into soft landings and effortless turns, particularly on its wide, open slopes. Even for intermediate skiers, the feeling of floating on fresh snow is unparalleled. For advanced riders, the backcountry access from Gate 2 provides an opportunity to carve through untouched powder fields and glades, offering an exhilarating and deeply rewarding experience.
While the powder is a major draw, it's important to be prepared. The sheer volume of snow means that visibility can sometimes be reduced, and strong winds can lead to lift closures. Always check weather conditions and lift status before heading out. Despite these occasional challenges, the chance to ski or snowboard in Niseko's world-class powder is an unforgettable adventure.
Family Fun and Beginner Bliss at Annupuri
Beyond the slopes, Niseko Annupuri offers unique family-friendly experiences. Imagine enjoying a BBQ dinner inside a traditional kamakura (snow dome) surrounded by a magical winter wonderland – a truly unforgettable memory for children and adults alike. The resort also has dedicated kids' areas, ensuring younger visitors have a safe and enjoyable time.
With convenient rental shops located near the opening slopes and a food court for easy refueling, Annupuri is designed to make family outings smooth and enjoyable. The relaxed atmosphere and focus on beginner terrain make it an ideal introduction to the joys of skiing and snowboarding in Japan.
