"A nice view"

"Lake Furen, located at the base of the Nemuro Peninsula between Nemuro City and Betsukai Town, is a vast brackish lake with a circumference of approximately 96km, where seawater and freshwater mix.

The lake's name comes from the Ainu word "Hure-Pet," meaning "red river," due to the color of the river that flows into it.

Separated from Nemuro Bay by a sandbar, Lake Furen's unique ecosystem is a fascinating feature.

It is also designated as a Ramsar Convention-registered wetland,
and is known as one of Japan's leading bird havens, home to whooper swans, red-crowned cranes (a national special natural monument), black woodpeckers (a national natural monument), and white-tailed eagles (a national bird species).

From the lakeside, you can enjoy views of the wetlands and sand dunes, as well as sunsets and birdwatching, making it one of Nemuro's most representative natural viewpoints.

I usually only stop by for a quick break,
but I'd love to come back to photograph the lake's surface and the flocks of waterfowl at dusk.
