What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Makkari Trailhead offers a challenging yet rewarding hiking experience with stunning views, especially during cherry blossom season. While the trail can be muddy and steep, it's generally well-marked and considered a good option for various fitness levels. Visitors appreciate the natural beauty and the opportunity for a substantial outdoor adventure.
"Route 7 and 8 were closed for maintenance, took us about 2h to and fro (with rest at Minami Kobu viewpoint) to complete route 10, 9 then 9, 10 back to the carpark. We went in late Aug, was quite humid and partly cloudy. The Makkari trails are muddy and don’t have many paved steps, we had to take our time coming down as it was quite slippery. Best to wear waterproof shoes as it was still quite wet despite it being sunny all morning! Note it was a steep incline up route 10 and 9 with barely any gentle gradient. We noted people had bells on their walking sticks to scare the bears away.
If you intend to hike all the way up to Mt Yotei, be sure to pack a thicker layer, walking sticks, food, and it will take you 10-12h to and fro."

If you want to track mountain Yotei, you have to stay night at makkari trail head. Next morning first morning you have to start tracking for mountain Yotei. It take 5 to 6 HR for reach summit. 4 to 5 hr for coming back. Total 10 to 12 hr.
Mountain Yotei is very sharp mountain. So you have to very very careful. Check weather update. Take enough water and food while tracking.
Also it is an active volcano."
