It used to be called Mosquito Island because it was about half the size it is now.
It has been protected to its current size by the construction of Nyodeishi and later bank protection.
Several times a year, there are events where you can land on the island, but surprisingly, even Shimane residents have never landed on this island, making it a very rare island.
