It was said that row houses like this are really rare nowadays. It was a great opportunity to get a glimpse of the past from one of the houses which is open for public for free. While only the first house in the row of samurai residences was open to the public, the rest appeared to still be in use as private homes. Upon entering, we were warmly welcomed by an enthusiastic woman whose smile immediately brightened the experience. When I asked about admission, she cheerfully informed me that entry was free. Without missing a beat, she handed over some printed materials explaining the history and significance of the place, including a version in English for non-Japanese speakers.
Although the space was modest in size, it was genuinely fascinating and offered an intimate glimpse into samurai life. The Gojoban Yashiki is conveniently located just below the Matsusaka Castle Ruins (松阪城跡), adding even more historical depth to the visit.
