Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Kinjo-cho Stone-Paved Road for its historical charm and beautiful sunset views over Naha. However, many caution that the steep, uneven cobblestones can be challenging and slippery, requiring good footwear and careful navigation. It's a unique glimpse into Okinawa's past, best enjoyed at a leisurely pace.

"This is a "must walk" road if you are visiting Okinawa. It's a very interesting and historic street with fantastic sites to see along the way. If you time you visit correctly you can enjoy a meal in the restaurant at the end (or start, depending on which way you are going) of the road."

"A stroll through Ryukyu history can’t wait to come back!

We spent today wandering around Naha, Okinawa, and stumbled upon something really special: the Shuri Kinjo Town Stone-paved Road. We were actually on our way from Ankokuji Temple, but ran out of time to explore Shuri Castle properly, so that’s definitely on our list for a return visit in a few days!

This historic stone-paved road is a hidden gem that takes you straight back to the Ryukyu Kingdom era. Fun fact: it was originally built during the reign of King Sho Shin in the early 16th century as part of the main road connecting Shuri Castle with other important parts of the kingdom. It’s one of the few remaining stone-paved roads from that time, and walking it really gives you a feel for what it must have been like back when Shuri was the royal capital.

The path is lined with beautiful traditional stone walls and old-style Okinawan houses, and it feels like a peaceful step back in time tucked away from the busy streets of modern Naha.

If you’re visiting Shuri Castle, definitely leave a little time to wander off the beaten path and explore this road it’s living history under your feet. Just wear good shoes (those stones can be slick!), and take your time soaking it all in.

Looking forward to coming back soon to finish our Shuri Castle adventure and learn even more!"
