Is Todaiji in Nara worth going to? Or skip it for Kasuga-taisha instead?

Hello! I'm currently planning a trip to Japan in the spring that includes a half-day to Nara, and I'm trying to decide if I want to go to Todaiji or not. (I'm mainly going to Nara for the deer because I love animals!) I'll be visiting a bunch of other temples in other cities,…

Is it realistic to cover Nara park/kofuku-ji,kasuga Taisha and naramachi area in 4 hours? (10-2)

So I have a short attention span, i can’t see myself spending longer then 20 minutes in each place… maybe I’ll be in Nara park with the deers a little longer. Judging by google maps distance, I can walk to each place in 5-10 minutes. But am I still being unrealistic? Would love…

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the museum for its unique samurai armor exhibitions, including national treasures, and well-displayed historical artifacts. However, some find the museum small for its ticket price, with limited English signage and a strict no-photography policy. The air conditioning can also be a concern on hot days, though the cafe offers a pleasant break.

"I went to see the armor exhibition.
The opportunity to see two pairs of armor considered to be twin national treasures and the exclusive Kawakami Village helmet together is as amazing as the appearance of Halley's Comet.
It is very valuable to the Japanese people.
This is not a place where foreigners who cannot understand the splendor of Japan's treasures come in search of a quick thrill like the Samurai Ninja Museum.
Finally, don't complain about not being able to take photos. Unlike in other countries, taking photos is not allowed in most Japanese art museums.
I've seen foreigners being told off.
When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Please observe proper etiquette."

"It was nice to see the samurai armour and read a little about the history of Nara. 500 yen was very cheap and the exhibits were well displayed.
There is an app you can use as an English speaker but we managed just on the small info on the boards. A lot of stuff was models but looked great then av few original pieces including the drums. These must have been impressive. Quite small so don’t expect to depend long here. But aircon on a humid day was appreciated. The ice cream cafe was great."

Mat Sunderland (Sunders ont road)

"Expensive museum exhibition of Samurai Armour. It appears they doubled the price since opening, as other reviews mention it used to only be 700, whereas it is now 1500. I expected a large exhibition based on that price, but it took less than 15 minutes to walk through, was not well air-conditioned and seemed like a money grab.

When compared to the Odawara Samurai museum for around 400, this felt like the museum is taking advantage of tourists. When leaving, I heard many other groups also discussing their dissatisfaction."
