What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Oarai Ferry Terminal is praised for its clean facilities and helpful staff, serving as a convenient gateway to Hokkaido. While onboard dining is limited, the comfortable cabins and scenic journey make it a popular choice for vehicle travelers and those seeking a unique sea voyage. Some visitors note the lack of extensive amenities within the terminal itself.
"Helpful staff. Clean waiting rooms. Not much else! We got an Uber from Mito. The check in details said 3 hours which, for foot passengers, thought was overkill but there was a slow moving queue and they started boarding at 5.45pm. Helpful English speaking staff. Clean waiting areas, toilets and vending machines but no cafe or such."
Science Mountain
"For foreign travelers wants to get a taxi, please make sure you have apps like Go Taxi, because Uber doesn’t work here and staffs are not going to help you get a ride."
Mr Foodie Buddy
"This is the terminal for the approximately 18-hour car ferry to Tomakomai Port.
The building only has a waiting room and no restaurant.
Check-in for boarding is done at a manned counter or using an automatic check-in machine.
There are easy-to-understand instructions, even for first-time passengers.
Staff also carefully guide passengers into the ferry,
even sports cars, so you can rest assured.
There are also large supermarkets and delicatessens nearby, so you can stock up on supplies before boarding."
