Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Magome for its incredibly well-preserved historic streets and the immersive Edo-period atmosphere. The steep, charming lanes and the option to hike to Tsumago are frequently highlighted as major draws. However, some find the town can feel crowded during peak hours and that amenities are limited outside the main tourist season.

"Toei Asakusa Shinno Station.
It's located along National Route 1 (Second Keihin), and just south of it is an overpass with Tokyo Metropolitan Route 318 (Loop Route 7).
Next door is a station called Nishi-Magome (it's west, but it's actually almost south), but despite being the main station, there aren't many commercial facilities nearby. The only thing that could be called a supermarket is the Life Higashi-Magome store 55m (8-minute walk) away, and then there are things like My Basket and Maruetsu Petit, which are just enough to get by.
If you hear about the chain's "Magome store" and check its location, you'll find that it's near Nishi-Magome Station or Omori Station.
Oh, there's a business hotel nearby called Tokyo Inn, and there's a Coco's on the first floor!"

"There is nothing in particular in front of the station. To the east is Higashi-Magome, to the west is Kita-Magome, and to the southwest is Naka-Magome. No matter which direction you head, you will encounter steep slopes. There are so many slopes that you often hear locals complaining, "Magome is full of slopes." Naka-Magome is a residential area with a gentler slope and a nice atmosphere."

"This station is next to Nishi-Magome Station, the terminus of the Toei Subway Asakusa Line, and the Kan-nana line runs to the south. When you enter through the A02 exit on the Kan-nana side, there is a small ticket gate on the first basement floor, and if you go down further you will reach the platform. As of August 2022, the platform gate has not yet been installed. The platform width is not wide, but since the number of users is limited, this is not a big problem."

It's a relatively moderate hike, taking about 2-3 hours to complete, and offers a tangible connection to Japan's past. Reddit

Many travelers choose to hike this section as part of their journey. It's advisable to wear sturdy walking shoes and to consider using a luggage forwarding service if you have large bags, as carrying them on the trail can be cumbersome. The atmosphere is one of stepping back in time. The absence of modern power lines and the careful preservation of the architecture contribute to this feeling. Visitors often comment on the tranquility, especially in the early mornings or late afternoons when the day-trippers have departed. TikTok

Exploring the narrow, winding streets and admiring the dark wood facades, sliding doors, and tiled roofs is a key part of the Magome experience. The sound of water flowing through small channels alongside the paths adds to the serene ambiance. TikTok
