My favorite of Japan is the nature. There truly are some of the best trails here; this one leads to the Nunobiki waterfall which was a peaceful hike past a dam, through a forested ravine, and with small shrines scattered throughout. #solotravel #hike #nature #asmr #waterfall

Yamanobe-no-Michi trail is part of Japan’s oldest road, the Shinkaido, which runs from Hasedera to Edo (what we now know as Tokyo) The laid back trek is about 10 km and goes through some of Nara’s most beautiful historical sites and nature. Most people start from Omiwa Shrine in Sakurai and finish within half a day, but you also have an option to go back by train every couple of km. I would rec...

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the Yamanobe-no-Michi Trail for its serene satoyama scenery and historical significance, offering a peaceful escape from crowded tourist spots. The trail is praised for its well-maintained paths, abundant ancient tombs, and numerous temples, providing a deeply relaxing and authentic Japanese countryside experience. While some note the length can be challenging, the availability of refreshments and the unique atmosphere make it a highly recommended day trip, especially from Osaka.

"Started the train from this end and it was beautiful. Not many people and the trail markers are usually very clear. I did have to make some detours, but eventually found my way. Plenty of temples and attractions on the trail too if you want to see them with less people.

It’s a long trail though if you go all the way. I took 5-6 hours and that was only visiting half of the shrines along the way. Some parts also can be very uphill, so it can be a bit difficult, but by and large this is a very calm, relaxing, and mostly paved trail.

There are also vending machines scattered along the trail, so no need to worry about going thirsty. I also encountered a few stalls selling fruits and treats along the way for a quick bite.

If you’re in Osaka, I highly, highly recommend this trail!"

"I passed by early in the morning, so there were no people around, which was nice. I felt happy while walking."

花鳥風月

"This popular course, with its relaxing rural scenery, is popular with couples, families, friends, and couples, who enjoy a leisurely stroll with a guidebook in hand. Along the way, there are keyhole-shaped tombs of Emperor Sujin (97-30 BC) and Emperor Keiko (71-130 AD). Now, trees have grown over the area, and it looks like nothing more than a small hill."
