Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Osaki Hachimangu Shrine for its stunning architecture, designated as a National Treasure, and its beautiful, tranquil forest setting. Many appreciate the free entry and the convenience of access via the Loople Sendai bus or free parking. Some note the climb up stairs to the main sanctuary and the restrictions on photography inside.

"Definitely worth visiting, it’s one of the symbols of the empire built by Date Masamune in Sendai.

Just to note the car park is located at the side exit, so you will have to walk through the main area, then walk down the stairs for the main entrance.

“The shrine is a superb example of the magnificent and splendid architecture of the Momoyama period (1573-1603) as conceived by Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1537-1598), who reunited Japan under his rule after a long period of civil war.”"

"A beautiful shrine a short bus ride from Sendai station. A wide area-more of a shrine complex than one individual shrine. There are roosters living in the shrine that symbolize a messenger from god. The architecture is very intricate with lots of bright colours, it is a stunning example of shrine architecture in Japan"

"Very beautiful shrine! It wouldn't be a national treasure otherwise. The place is also quite big and you can walk around the grounds and explore a bit. And there are a lot of people come here lining up to make a wish and pray. The easiest way to get here is via the Loople Sendai: Sendai City Loop Bus, which you can take from right in front of the Sendai Station. And it will take you right in front of this magnificent shrine. But you do have to climb up many stairs that leads to the shrine."
