What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Cape Kamui for its breathtaking "Shakotan Blue" sea and stunning panoramic views, describing it as a spiritual and peaceful experience. The accessible trails and free parking are also highlighted as positives, though some mention strong winds and the need for comfortable footwear.
"Cape Kamui (神威岬) is truly breathtaking — a place where the sky, sea, and cliffs merge into one endless view. Standing at the viewpoint at the very end of Charenka’s Path, you feel as if you’re standing at the edge of the world.
The sky here is incredibly wide and clear, with shifting colors throughout the day — soft pastel blue in the morning, deep sapphire by noon, and golden-pink at sunset. On days with scattered clouds, you’ll see layers of light and shadow dancing across the water, giving everything a dreamlike glow.
Below, the sea glows with the famous “Shakotan Blue”, an unreal, transparent shade of turquoise and deep blue that changes with the sun’s angle. The water is so clear that from the viewpoint, you can often see the rocky seabed and seaweed swaying beneath the surface. When sunlight hits, the ocean sparkles like glass — pure and untouched.
Surrounding you are dramatic green cliffs and the sharp outline of Kamui Rock rising proudly from the sea — a symbol of power and mystery. The air is crisp and salty, and the sound of wind and waves creates a feeling of peace and freedom.
It’s not just a viewpoint — it’s a spiritual experience. The vastness of the sky meeting the sea makes you feel both small and deeply connected to nature. On a clear day, you can even see all the way to the horizon where the blue of the sky melts into the blue of the ocean.
🌅 Best time to visit:
• Morning: calm wind and soft blue light.
• Sunset: golden tones and pastel skies reflecting on the water.
• After rain: the air is crystal clear, and the colors of the sea become their most vivid.
Truly, Cape Kamui is one of those rare places where the world feels completely pure — where the wind sings, the water shines, and the sky seems endless."

"Love the views. Strong wind but very peaceful and calm. The track is easy, for someone who are not really fit like me, still okay. I really recommend it, so worth the trip. We even bring our bento and eat it here. Wonderful experience!
I'm not sure if they have public transport to come here. We were driving from Otaru, about 2hrs drive. A lot of parking space, and it's free. If you are planning to come here leisurely, need to allocate 1 day to come here. So no rush and just enjoy the scenic and breathtaking views.
At this area they have souvenirs and ice cream shop too. I think they also have a small cafe, but I don't think it's Muslim friendly.
I went there in May 2025. This is rather a bit late reviews.🙏"

"The scene is beautiful. However, due to the report of brown bear, we can only reach to the entrance, and have no other way to access to other places as well."
