While passing by, our attention was peaked by the deep interior of Ebisu Yokocho, a claustrophobic street with a patchwork of small izakayas. We decided to chance an entry - but this is 2025. It would be suicide to stumble in without at least a cursory glance at google maps. Consulting the starrage, we homed in on "gyoza no suiken" and resisted the greedy eyes of the touts hoping to land their first naive group of foreigners. Clearly they had no idea I'm a qualified google maps reviewer.
The street itself was crammed with locals. If you come here for just the vibe I think anywhere would give you a good time. Ratings on the gyoza were definitely justified. Plump, juicy and embellished with Chinese spices. You'd better have a beer in you already though as it was very expensive. the portion sizes and lofty alcohol prices were clearly designed to leave you out of pocket. I have to say though, the unspoken camaraderie of rosy cheeks and clinking glasses leaves you with a satisfying social buzz.If you're on the old money daddy's credit card holiday, or just not poor like me, the atmosphere is definitely worth it."
