Reviews Summary

Visitors are impressed by the sheer scale and engineering of the Shichikashuku Dam, appreciating its vital role in supplying water to Sendai. The observation plaza offers stunning views, and the unique dam card is a popular souvenir. Some note the strong winds can be a surprise, but the overall experience is often described as magnificent and worthwhile, especially for those interested in civil engineering or scenic drives. Reddit

"It's pronounced "Shichikashuku Dam." Miyagi Prefecture is home to 36 dam lakes, and Lake Shichikashuku is the largest of them all (the Surikami River Dam is in Fukushima Prefecture). The dam is approximately 90 meters high.
I came here 30 years ago, but didn't feel anything at the time. In fact, I even thought, "I was wrong." However, just as our taste buds change over time, I realized that our sensibilities change. I suddenly felt like visiting, and the weather was beautiful, so this time I thought it was wonderful.
It's classified as a rockfill dam. It's apparently one of the water sources for the people of Sendai City. The dam will submerge 158 households and 640 people. There was a fierce opposition movement among residents, and negotiations for relocation and compensation took 10 years.
The magnificent dam is now complete, providing agricultural water for the Sendai Plain and a water supply for 1.83 million people. It's amazing!"

"Dam Tour: Miyagi - Shichikashuku Dam (202504E)
This rockfill dam is 90.0 meters high and 565 meters long. It was constructed on the Shiroishi River, part of the Abukuma River system, for flood control, general water use, irrigation, drinking water, and industrial water. There is an observation plaza upon approaching the dam from the national highway, from which you can see the entire dam. The weather was fine that day, but the wind was very strong. This caused rippling in the lake surface. While dam lakes are often thought of as calm and mirror-like, here the water looked like a flowing river.
