They have paper goshuin's. Four different types, I got them all since it was my first visit here. And it is difficult to come back.

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Spiritual Significance of Tsubaki Grand Shrine

Tsubaki Grand Shrine is a significant Shinto shrine, dating back to 3 BCE, making it one of Japan's oldest. It is dedicated to Sarutahiko No Okami, the deity of guidance, courage, strength, and righteousness. This makes the shrine a place of pilgrimage for those seeking direction and fortitude in their lives. The complex houses six main shrines, each with its own specific blessings and significance, contributing to the overall spiritual depth of the location. Visitors often report feeling a profound sense of peace and connection to the divine during their visit. Reddit

The presence of ancient cedar trees surrounding the shrine adds to its sacred aura. These towering trees, some believed to be centuries old, create a natural sanctuary that amplifies the spiritual experience. The air is often described as crisp and clean, carrying the distinct, calming scent of hinoki wood, which is known for its aromatic and purifying properties. This natural environment is not just visually stunning but also contributes to the shrine's reputation as a place of healing and spiritual renewal. Reddit

For those interested in traditional Japanese practices, Tsubaki Grand Shrine offers the opportunity to collect goshuin, which are calligraphic seals awarded by shrines and temples. The availability of four distinct types of goshuin here makes it a special collectible for enthusiasts. It's a tangible reminder of one's pilgrimage and the blessings received. Reddit

Hiking Adventures Around the Shrine

Beyond its spiritual significance, Tsubaki Grand Shrine is a gateway to a beautiful mountain landscape offering rewarding hiking opportunities. The trails are varied, presenting a mix of terrains that cater to different fitness levels. You can expect to traverse through dense forests of Sugi trees, characterized by winding, zig-zagged paths that invite exploration. These shaded paths offer a cool respite, especially during warmer months. Reddit

The hiking experience also includes challenging climbs that test your endurance and reward you with panoramic views. As you ascend, the landscape transitions, eventually opening up to beautiful fields of brown grass and flowers at higher elevations. These open areas provide a stark contrast to the dense forest and offer breathtaking vistas of the surrounding natural beauty. The journey to the top is estimated to take around 3.5 hours, with a quicker descent of about 1.5 hours. Reddit

It's crucial to be well-prepared for these hikes. A rest area is conveniently located about 1.5 km from the summit, offering a place to catch your breath. However, water resources are scarce along the trails, making it essential to carry ample water supplies. Wearing appropriate footwear is also highly recommended to navigate the varied terrain safely and comfortably. Reddit
