"The Kagawa Prefectural Gymnasium was designed by Kenzo Tange and opened in 1964 coincidentally the same year that the Tange’s other famous gymnasium in Yoyogi was opened for the Tokyo Olympics.
Unfortunately time has not been kind to the Kagawa Prefectural Gymnasium, and it now stands in ruin. Seemingly set for demolition.
There is a campaign through change.org to save the building form destruction as many believe that this building should be preserved. Let’s hope it gets the numbers it needs to get the Kagawa government to halt the demolition process.
Whatever its future holds, there’s no doubt that the Kagawa Prefectural Gymnasium is a totally unique, one-of-a-kind building. With it’s quirky ship-like design and gorgeously curved roof it’s a piece of art that deserves adulation and respect."
