A hidden gem in Japan you must see with your own eyes <3! Mt Tateyama is in Toyama prefecture and is said to be the Switzerland of Japan! It’s so beautiful and if you love hiking it’s a must visit for sure!! The whole Tateyama Alpine Route requires you to take 6 different transportations throughout the journey (I believe it’s also possible to hike instead of taking some of the transportations) but...

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Mandala Yuen Park for its unique, surreal artistic experience and the unexpected quality of design. The 'Hell' and 'Heaven' exhibits offer a thought-provoking journey, complemented by the historical Open Air Building Museum and the chance to see local wildlife. While some find the 'Hell' section intense, most appreciate the reasonable entrance fee and the overall immersive nature of the art space.

"Totally enjoyed our visit here.

Too bad we came too late and couldn't catch the show.

Allow at least 2 hours to properly experience all the creative interactive exhibits.

We only managed to visit the park, and not all the other areas in the offerings.

While it is quite a drive away, we are prepared to visit it again if we ever como to Toyama, and experience the other offerings, as well as spending time in the vast peaceful park for quiet reflection"

"A surreal collection of architecture as art in a mountain setting. Very unexpected for its quality of design.

The adjacent open air building museum shows diners farm houses and dormitory in various stages of repair and restoration."

Will Galloway

"A spiritual retreat deep into the mountains that is not exactly a museum but more of an experience type art space for me.
Based on the Mandala view of the world, visitors get to experience the Buddhist hell first followed by a serene path to the Buddhist heaven that ends with a view of some actual antelopes (there are also real monkeys near the hell area and warnings of not to go in the forest due to threat of bears)
The hell is not frightening but more of an uncomfortable experience with dark areas, a corridor of flashy lights and a narrow path with strange sounds coming out of square holes in the wall.

After completing the hell experience it is time to enjoy some peace and meditate in a UFO like object placed at the other end of the park. On the way, you can also enter the rooms and enjoy some good abstract artworks (photography not allowed in some rooms). There is also a nice music room where you can try your hand at some not so common music instruments.

After completing the meditation experience, follow the dark tube to go back to the present world.

Highly recommended if you are in the area and the entrance fee is quite reasonably priced."
