"This white, Western-style lighthouse, approximately 11 meters tall and built in 1910, has been selected as one of Japan's 50 Best Lighthouses. It is the second electric lighthouse in Japan to use its own power generator, after the Shiriyazaki Lighthouse.
Due to the treacherous location at sea, plans for its construction had been circulating for some time, but the project was stalled. However, the discovery of Asahi Shoal, discovered during a collision with the warship Asahi, prompted its immediate construction.
A flight of stairs leads to an observation deck overlooking the lighthouse and the ocean. The lower part of the lighthouse is a government residence, resembling a small community center from the outside. A plaque bearing the name of Yumi Katsura, a famous wedding dress designer, is embedded in the observation deck, making it a lovers' sanctuary.
It also appears in the novel Shiosai. In the novel, it is described as one of the places with a great view, and a scene depicts Shinji delivering fish to the government residence where he was staying.
From the port, it is approximately 750 meters via the shrine. The path is mostly uphill and staircase-filled, so comfortable shoes are recommended."

"2502 Kamishima has a lot to see, so I wanted to take my time and make a full tour, but I also had to visit other islands, so I only had 70 minutes to stay. I headed for the Kamishima Lighthouse, stopping off at the clock tower, the community kitchen, and Yatsushiro Shrine to take photos, and quickly climbed up, arriving in just under 20 minutes each way. Kamishima is fun, like an adventure, as you can pass through various spots along the way. It seems like it would be good to take a whole day to see various things. I'm glad I went in winter, as I heard that there are problems with heat and insects in summer."
