What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Toshijima Island is praised for its stunning natural beauty, tranquil atmosphere, and exceptionally fresh seafood. Visitors appreciate the escape from crowds and the authentic fishing village charm. Some note that the island's infrastructure isn't heavily geared towards tourism, and certain coastal areas can appear industrialized.
"How can an island so beautiful be so infrequently visited? We are in the middle of Golden Week and there's no one here.
And yet... We took the skyline road by bike from one side of the island to the next. The route is 7k long, covered in greenery and offering amazing views of the sea and islands beyond.
It's a little tiring climbing up at first but you will be rewarded later when you go down. Don't miss the observation deck about halfway through the route. It is well worth the quick stop over for the breathtaking views.
This place is magical!"

"Easy access by ferry 10-15 mins from Toba marine terminal. Offers great view of the Ise Bay and surrounding islands. It is possible to hike from one end of the island to the opposite end (mostly on flat land). My January visit was like - arrive via Momotori terminal in south and start walking towards north along the asphalt road. Very few cars will pass you, so it's not an issue but just stick to walking on one side of the road. Stop at Ray Field, the main observation deck here (was able to see Fuji on a clear day). Continue north, towards Wagu terminal, there is a beach and park areas there. Walk towards Blue Field (a park like area with good sea-view, located on the northern most part of the island. In between stop at a shrines, temples, famous tombs, a large cemetery ground. You can return via the Toshi terminal or the Wagu terminal to Toba. Note that Wagu area is the relatively more populated part of the otherwise deserted island. It has some famous sea food restaurants as well."

"An interesting island with a route connecting one harbor to another. The fishing industry has made the coast very industrialized and somewhat littered. It's not geared towards tourists. However, the fantastic sushi and seafood restaurant at the end makes the trip worthwhile."
