It’s a quieter alternative to some of the more tourist-heavy areas around Mount Fuji, like Fujikawaguchiko, making it perfect for those who want to escape the crowds while still being close to the natural beauty of the region.

Things to Do in Yamanakako
1. Lake Yamanaka (Yamanakako):
• Lake Yamanaka itself is the main attraction. It offers a variety of outdoor activities such as boating, fishing, and cycling around the 14-kilometer shoreline. Renting a boat or a pedal boat on the lake is a fun way to enjoy the views and the peaceful waters. If you’re into fishing, there are many spots around the lake where you can try catching bass or trout.
• The lake’s promenade is also perfect for a leisurely walk or jog. In the warmer months, the area is great for picnics, and you’ll often see people relaxing and taking in the stunning views of Mount Fuji.
2. Mount Fuji Views:
• From various points around Yamanakako, you get clear, unobstructed views of Mount Fuji. The lake’s shoreline provides some of the best spots to snap photos of the iconic peak. The views are especially beautiful at sunrise or sunset, when the lighting creates a breathtaking reflection on the lake’s surface.
• If you’re an early riser, you may even get the chance to see the famous “Diamond Fuji”, a phenomenon where the sun aligns perfectly with the peak of Mount Fuji, creating a diamond-like effect at sunrise.
3. Fujisan Juku no Mori:
• A forested park near Yamanakako, Fujisan Juku no Mori offers a chance to hike, enjoy nature trails, and explore forests with scenic views of Mount Fuji. There’s also a Fujisan Juku no Mori Museum that provides information about the history of the area, Mount Fuji, and the ancient Fujisan pilgrimage routes.
4. Yamanakako Hananomiyako Park:
• If you’re visiting in the spring or summer, Yamanakako Hananomiyako Park (Flower Park) is a beautiful destination. • Located near Yamanakako, Oshino Hakkai is a small village that’s famous for its eight crystal-clear springs that come from the melted snow of Mount Fuji. It’s an idyllic, traditional setting with preserved old buildings, beautiful ponds, and the stunning sight of Mount Fuji in the background. 6. Yamanakako Onsen:
• If you’re looking to relax and unwind, Yamanakako offers a number of onsen (hot springs) where you can soak in warm, therapeutic waters with views of Mount Fuji. Some of the onsens even have outdoor baths (rotenburo) that let you enjoy the natural beauty of the area while you relax.
• The area’s onsen are generally less crowded than those in more famous hot spring towns, offering a quieter and more peaceful experience.

• You can also visit local cultural spots like Yamanakako Art Museum and local shrines to learn more about the history and culture of the area. The town has a calm, rural vibe and is home to local crafts, small shops, and eateries serving regional delicacies."

"The viewing spot is about a 45-minute drive from the Kawaguchiko area. Unfortunately, we visited on a cloudy day on 22 August, so the famous view was hidden. The location is only accessible by car, and parking is quite limited, though we were lucky to find a spot upon arrival. Basic facilities such as toilets are available, which makes the visit more convenient."

"Panorama-dai has free but limited parking, and there's even a toilet nearby, super convenient. The view from up there is really nice. You can see Lake Yamanaka, all the little houses below, and on a clear day, Mt Fuji in the background. When I went it was cloudy, so I didn’t see much of Fuji, but the view was still worth it. The whole place looks like a miniature model from above,pretty cool.

Just a heads-up though: there are wild blueberries or some kind of berries on the ground, and if you’re not careful, they’ll stain your car’s white carpet or your clothes, especially if your kid walks over them and you carry them after. Happened to me lol."
