But, having been there, I would not hesitate to go again, special event or not. If you rent a car, or just want to escape the usual Tokyo/Kyoto tourist spots check this place out.
And not for nothing, as a value proposition, this place blows US theme parks out of the water. Admission is less than half the price, almost no waiting in lines (on a weekend in late July) and kids would not be bored.

"You paid again, and even as an adult, who is visiting the children site, then you pay for each ride, then you pay for the events, then you pay for some particularly horrible food. It is so overpriced. I do not understand the fascination.
My grandchildren had a wonderful time. I on other hand spent way more than I should have for never having stepped in a ride. I skipped one of the events because they actually charged for adults to go in and watch their children play. It seemed excessive. ¥990 for a balloon."
