Replying to @Abi 𓂆 it’s not that it’s just the off-season or it’s Ramadan, Jordan is seeing devastatingly low tourist numbers and nothing is hit harder than Petra. Several of the vendors we spoke to shared how they can barely make enough sales to support themselves which is heartbreaking 💔 Jordan is incredible and Petra is breathtaking — this is your sign to go to Jordan! #petra #wadirum #wadi...

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the breathtaking beauty and historical significance of Petra, with many highlighting the iconic Treasury and Monastery as unforgettable sights. The helpfulness and friendliness of the staff are frequently praised, contributing to a positive experience. However, some find the food and amenities overpriced for the quality, and a few describe certain hotels as tourist traps with dated facilities.

"You expect a great view with the name of the hotel. It was everything I hoped for. Dome rooms have a balcony but there is also a balcony and bar at the lobby. Sunset and watching the herd of goats was a treat. Best buffet on Jordan. Always fresh and different dishes the two days we stayed. To make it extra special the staff were delightful. Wish our stay there was longer."

Lee Switzenberg

"First the good. Reception looks very nice and has free though poor Internet. The pool was dirty, the rooms do not have Internet, no hair dryer, electric kettle is broken, everything is dated and the hotel is built like a labyrinth. Also the food was 5-6 times as expensive as local food and of much poorer quality. Stay away, this is a tourist trap!"

Frederik Bjerre

"It's not the first time that I stay at Petra Panorama, but honestly I felt the change as soon as I arrived. "Excellent" reception, cooperative and professional staff "Sufian" is professional by everything he offered to us, especially the Blackberry welcome drink, a delice.
The restaurant manager "adorable". He is attending on you and reacts on the spot.
The chef... he is amazing and willing to give you all his recipes.
The food is more than enough, and the attention to details for all types of diets between vegan, vegetarian, and other tastes is taken care of.
I admire and appreciate the change, but I have two thing to comment " the lighting in the rooms "it needs extra attention as the lighting is not enough, and the location requires a shuttle service.
I would have loved to add some photos, but it was late and dark when I decided to write a review..."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

Understanding Petra's History

Petra, the 'Rose City,' was the capital of the Nabataean Kingdom, flourishing from around the 4th century BCE to the 1st century CE. The Nabataeans were skilled traders and engineers, carving their city directly into the sandstone cliffs. Their mastery of water management allowed them to thrive in the arid desert environment. The city's strategic location on ancient trade routes brought immense wealth, evident in the grandeur of its architecture. TikTok

Later, Petra came under Roman rule and eventually declined after earthquakes and shifts in trade routes. It was largely forgotten by the Western world until its 'rediscovery' by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt in 1812. Today, it stands as a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the New7Wonders of the World, attracting visitors eager to witness its ancient splendor. TikTok

Key structures like Al-Khazneh (The Treasury) and Ad-Deir (The Monastery) showcase the Nabataeans' unique blend of Hellenistic, Egyptian, and Mesopotamian architectural influences. The sheer scale and intricate detail of these rock-cut facades are a testament to their ingenuity and artistry. TikTok

Navigating Petra's Trails and Viewpoints

Exploring Petra involves a network of trails, ranging from easy walks to challenging climbs. The most famous route begins with the Siq, a narrow, winding gorge that dramatically opens up to reveal the Treasury. From there, you can follow the main path past the Street of Facades and the Theatre. TikTok

For more adventurous travelers, the hike to Ad-Deir (The Monastery) is a must-do. This involves ascending over 800 steps, but the reward is a monumental structure even larger than the Treasury, with breathtaking panoramic views. Instagram Other popular trails lead to the High Place of Sacrifice, offering stunning vistas over the city, and various viewpoints overlooking the Treasury from above. Reddit

Be prepared for varying terrain and significant elevation changes. Comfortable hiking shoes are essential. Reddit Many viewpoints require a bit of a scramble or a dedicated hike, so factor in ample time and energy for exploration beyond the main path. TikTok

The Petra Panorama Viewpoint Experience

The term 'Petra Panorama Viewpoint' often refers to the stunning vistas offered from hotels situated on the hills overlooking Petra, such as the Movenpick Petra. TikTok These locations provide a sweeping overview of the ancient city and the surrounding desert landscape, especially magical during sunrise and sunset. TikTok

Visitors staying at these hotels often enjoy the convenience of having such a view readily accessible, sometimes from their rooms or a dedicated viewing terrace. It's a place to relax, perhaps with a drink from the bar, and soak in the vastness of the historical site. Reddit Watching herds of goats traverse the hillsides during sunset is a unique and memorable experience often highlighted by guests. Reddit

While these viewpoints offer a grand perspective, they are distinct from the viewpoints within the Petra archaeological park itself. To experience the iconic Treasury or Monastery views, you must enter the ancient city and embark on the trails. TikTok However, the 'Panorama Viewpoint' hotels provide a complementary, serene way to appreciate Petra's grandeur from a distance. TikTok
