What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
JB Sentral is a crucial transport hub, particularly for Singapore-Malaysia travel via the KTM train, which is praised for its speed and affordability. However, many visitors find the station itself to be poorly maintained with confusing signage, leading to navigation difficulties and a less-than-ideal visitor experience.
"It’s a normal train station. I feel that the station needs more clear signage, as we were lost and didn’t know where our grab ride was. Took the train from Singapore to JB, the train was old but efficient.
All immigration stuff is settled at the Singapore side when going from SG -> JB, so arriving at Malaysia, we didn’t need to do anything. However, the immigration stuff weren’t located at the same place when coming back from JB -> SG.
Important note to people travelling from Singapore to JB and back:
- Cheaper to buy one way SG -> JB, then buy another ticket from JB -> SG in JB, as in SG tickets are priced at SG$5 per ride, but in JB it’s 5 Ringgit.
- only need to prepare your passport, no E-ticket needed. Just scan your passport and look into the camera."

"I visited JB Sentral this afternoon with the intention of heading to Legoland, but the experience left me deeply disappointed. For a major gateway into Malaysia — especially for visitors coming from Singapore — the condition of this transport hub is far below expectations.
The facilities are poorly maintained. There is a lack of clear signage, no proper queue system, limited seating, and several broken infrastructure elements. I asked a staff member how to get to the airport, and instead of receiving helpful directions, I was spoken to rudely and told to wait at Bay 1. However, Bay 1 did not appear to exist — the sign was broken and there was no indication where to wait.
The escalator from CIQ (the customs and immigration complex) down to the bus terminal was also out of service. This creates difficulties for elderly passengers, tourists with children, or anyone carrying luggage.
Even more surprising, there is no direct bus service to Legoland, which is arguably Johor’s most well-known international tourist attraction. It’s difficult to understand why a transport hub of this scale would not provide a straightforward connection to such a major destination.
Given Johor Bahru’s proximity to Singapore and its role as a state capital, the overall condition of JB Sentral does not reflect well on local governance or tourism planning. By comparison, cities like Penang and Melaka have much more organised and visitor-friendly infrastructure.
JB Sentral has potential, but serious improvements are needed in terms of maintenance, staff training, and transport connectivity. First impressions matter, especially at international entry points — and right now, this one is failing to deliver."

"This is a huge place hubs for KTM Trains and buses around Johor Bahru. A very busy area and there is no information kiosk so we have to go to JB Mall for any information to our next journey. The information in Google about the buses are correct and the buses are located at the ground floor after crossing the link bridge."
