What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Nuffara Hill offers a peaceful escape with stunning panoramic views and subtle prehistoric ruins, ideal for those seeking off-the-beaten-path experiences. However, visitors should be prepared for poorly marked paths and potential encounters with aggressive residents and their dogs. The lack of signage and facilities means prior research is essential for a smooth visit.
"Climbing the hill was impossible because a man suddenly appeared with unleashed dogs, shouting aggressively and rudely, "Go out! Go out where you came from!" without showing any willingness to engage in normal conversation. It should be noted that this area, unlike some neighboring properties, is not marked as private, and there is a sign on the path leading up to it that reads "To the Hill Top of Nuffara." Oh, and this man, the most unfriendly person I encountered in all of Malta, keeps songbirds in tiny cages, approximately 20x20x20 cm, in which the birds cannot move."

"In-Nuffara is a truly interesting place, off the beaten track. The hill not only offers an archaeologically significant backdrop—with the remains of a prehistoric settlement—but also a magnificent view of the Gozo landscape. The panoramic view of Xagħra and the surrounding fields is particularly beautiful, especially at sunset.
The path there, however, is somewhat inconspicuous and not particularly well-signposted. Those who want to visit the place should do some research beforehand or have a map handy. There are hardly any information boards on site, so without any background knowledge, you'll quickly walk past the ruins without truly grasping their historical significance.
But that's precisely what makes the place so charming: you often have the area all to yourself, can quietly enjoy the view, and absorb the special atmosphere.
In conclusion: A quiet, historic place with a beautiful view over Gozo—perfect for those who like to get away from the major attractions. One star deducted because the information and signage on site could still be improved."
