What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Turtle Bay Beach is praised for its exceptional shore snorkeling, revealing vibrant corals and abundant marine life. Visitors appreciate the public access and the scenic views from the resort's accessible bar. However, challenges include rocky terrain requiring water shoes and the lack of a pontoon for easier reef access, which can make swimming and snorkeling less convenient for some.
"One of the best beach we found for snorkelling from shore in Mauritius!
It’s not usually indicated as a good snorkelling spot of the island but it’s where we found the most gorgeous, alive and biggest corals when swimming from shore. Lot of marine life as well. The water is shallow and you can find nice corals from less than 10m from shore.
There are two hotels there but the beach is public!"

"Yulia gives such a better review than I ever could.
There is a dodgey parking access but once in it’s lovely. The beach is accessible to the public although not announced.
Snorkeling- YES. It was really memorable. However as you go further out you’ll need booties or wet shoes. For bathing it’s ok.
There’s also a free dine places there so if you keen."

"Turtle Bay Beach, located at the Westin Mauritius, offers a picturesque coastal retreat with breathtaking views. However, there are certain aspects of the beach that present challenges and safety concerns for visitors.
One notable issue is the absence of a pontoon to reach the coral reef. Without a designated pathway, it can be difficult for visitors to access the reef and enjoy the underwater beauty. The lack of a pontoon limits the ability to comfortably explore and appreciate the marine ecosystem without having to navigate the rocky terrain.
Furthermore, the beach is scattered with large stones, which can hinder the swimming experience and pose potential safety risks. The presence of these stones makes it challenging to find a safe spot to swim, especially for those who prefer calm and shallow waters. It would greatly enhance the visitor experience if there were designated swimming areas free from obstacles.
Additionally, the shallow depth of the beginning of the reef requires visitors to walk quite far out, often necessitating special shoes for protection. This can be an inconvenience and may deter some guests from fully enjoying the swimming and snorkeling opportunities the beach has to offer.
To address these concerns, the introduction of a pontoon would be beneficial. A well-placed pontoon would provide a safe and convenient access point to the coral reef, allowing visitors to explore the underwater world more easily and without obstacles.
Overall, Turtle Bay Beach boasts stunning scenery and offers glimpses of Mauritius’ natural beauty. However, the lack of a pontoon, the presence of large stones, and the need to walk far for swimming pose limitations and safety concerns. With the addition of a pontoon and improved swimming conditions, Turtle Bay Beach has the potential to offer an even more enjoyable and accessible beach experience."
