What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Riambel Beach is praised for its vast, quiet, and often deserted sandy shores, offering a peaceful escape. Visitors appreciate the shallow lagoon for calm waters, though warnings about strong currents and the presence of stonefish are common. Some find it less ideal for swimming far out and note potential debris after rain.
"Was there to to some snorkeling, but the local anglers started to shout at me when I was entering the water. We’ve spoken and they warned me it’s dangerous today. They said I should snorkel only in “this bay” for my safety - cause the back current today was very strong, and I shouldn’t even approach the reef line today. I listen !
The beach was totally empty when fishermens left. Beach is nice and heavier grain sandy, “bay” bottom also."

"Not the best beach to go to, but it’s a nice long one if u don’t mind. It swimming.
Best time to go is during the dry season when the water is clear, as after it rains this area is usually flooded with brown river water, which make a great shark buffet.
Lots of river debris washes up here as well."
Warwick (The Saucy Mare)
"Beautiful and quiet beach. However, it should be noted that we were warned by several people that it is a dangerous area for snorkeling and swimming is only safe close to the beach. This seems to be common local knowledge, but clear signage for tourists would help a lot with safety."

Understanding the Currents and Safety
Furthermore, the presence of stonefish is a significant concern. These venomous fish camouflage themselves on the seabed, and stepping on one can result in a painful injury. To mitigate this risk, wearing sturdy water shoes or reef walkers is highly recommended when entering the water. After rainfall, the water quality can also deteriorate due to river debris washing into the sea, making it less appealing and potentially more hazardous. Therefore, checking local conditions and prioritizing safety advice from those familiar with the area is paramount for an enjoyable visit.
