"The Opalos de Mexico store in Magdalena was a gem lovers dream come true! We admired their spectacular pieces of raw opal, phenomenal carvings and beautiful jewelry, all handcrafted with beautiful opal from their mine. Javier Lopez and his family were wonderful people who showed us how the opal is mined and processed to create the beautiful treasures in their shop. After we purchased carvings, polished stone, and an obsidian turtle with a shell crafted from rainbow filled opals (at a very good price!), they brought us to their open pit mine to see how they excavate the gems and we were allowed to keep all that we found. We found yellow, orange, red and some rainbow fire opals which exceeded our expectations! It was an amazing trip that left us in love with Mexico!"
