What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise La Cumbre Ixtepeji for its beautiful natural setting, affordable and cozy cabins, and excellent mountain biking and hiking trails. The peaceful atmosphere and stunning mountain views are frequently highlighted as major draws. However, some find the limited restaurant hours and the extra cost for WiFi inconvenient.
"Nice cabin with hot shower at fair price. Bring warm clothes for very cold nights (~5 degrees in July). Bring food. WiFi access costs extra fees. If you just want to enjoy nature, come during weekdays to avoid loud music and mountain bikers."

"Incredible experience! Came here to mountain bike and it was so much fun! The trails are very fun, some are east and some are hard- good for everyone.
I read a review that you should bring your food with you and I’m so glad we did! We brought food and water with us for 2 days and I recommend you do the same. The restaurant was closed the first day and next day we got breakfast but it’s really not much to eat there.
Also you have to pay for wifi and have to pay for extra wood.
Also bring a lot of warm clothes, it gets very cold at night."

"Highlight of our trip!
Some useful info: amazing biking and hiking. Unbelievable birding. Lovely chalets at good prices. Lovely people. Suggest bringing your own food especially if overnighting.
If coming by taxi it's easiest to get a lift in to the chalet area (180mxn for 2 people) and then walk out (about 7 km) once you know the way."

Exploring the Trails: Hiking and Biking
Mountain bikers will find the trails particularly enjoyable, with many describing them as 'so much fun.' The park is well-suited for those looking for an active adventure. Remember to wear appropriate footwear and be mindful of trail conditions, especially after rain. The higher altitude means you'll get a good workout, so pace yourself and enjoy the crisp mountain air.
Accommodation: Cozy Cabins and Camping
It's important to note that while the cabins are well-maintained, the remote location means services are limited. The restaurant closes early, and WiFi comes at an extra cost. Visitors strongly recommend bringing your own food and extra firewood to ensure a comfortable and self-sufficient stay, especially if you plan to enjoy the solitude after the staff depart for the evening.
Navigating the Sierra Norte: Travel and Weather
Weather can be unpredictable in the Sierra Norte. Heavy hail and ice storms have been known to occur, sometimes blocking the federal highway and causing delays. It's advisable to check local weather conditions before your trip and drive cautiously. The thin air at over 9,000 feet can also affect some individuals, so taking it easy upon arrival is a good idea.
