Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Kathmandu Durbar Square for its rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant cultural atmosphere. Many highlight the intricate carvings and the feeling of stepping back in time. While some mention ongoing repairs from the earthquake, the overall essence and charm remain strong, making it a highly recommended experience.

"A UNESCO world heritage site and a history carrying from 3rd Century, Kathmandu Durbar Square aka Basantapur Durbar has always been one of my favorite place.

Though the structures were rebuilt after 2015 earthquake, the essence and its art or carvings has been still amazing.

The narrow roads around freak street and towards Ason has amazing experience of local shopping and food tasting.

A must place to visit during your stay at Kathmandu.

🙏"

"A great way to spend a few hours. The ancient buildings are beautiful and covered with intricate carvings. Photos could not capture the feeling of walking through and seeing them in real. There are lots of little cultural things happening that make you feel like you have a front-row seat to Nepalese tradition. There is also an outdoor area with rows of stalls where you can buy souvenirs. Keep in mind the main museum closes early (5pm) so it's better to visit during the day. So far this is the one place I wouldn't mind revisiting on my Kathmandu trip."

"Kathmandu Durbar Square is simply mesmerizing! I visited in August 2024, and despite the peak rain, I thoroughly enjoyed every moment. The atmosphere was incredible – alive with history and culture, even with the showers. The ancient temples and palaces are breathtaking, each telling a story. Walking through this UNESCO site, you truly feel transported back in time. The rain added a unique, mystical charm, making it an even more memorable experience. Highly recommended for its rich heritage and vibrant ambiance!"
