"To cycle from Apeldoorn to the starting point of the Oosterhuizen cycle route (at the Dorpshuis or Village Hall of the hamlet of Oosterhuizen, a beautiful and not too long cycle ride, recommended!) you need to cycle about 7 kilometers along the Apeldoorns Kanaal. And that is certainly no punishment. Along the east side of the canal is a separate cycling path where motorized traffic has no access. On one side farms, and the forest edge of the Beekbergerwoud, a so-called ‘carr’, a waterlogged wooded terrain, flowery wetlands interspersed with strips of low vegetation and trees. And on the other side the Apeldoorns Kanaal that, with its beautiful trees hanging over the water, its bridges and drawbridges, and with the many swans and ducks that have settled here, provides quite romantic images. In spring and summer, when the trees are still green and the water lilies bloom, in autumn when the trees reflect their red, yellow and golden colors in the water at low sunlight, and in winter when sometimes the water is frozen, or mist hangs over the water surface. The Oosterhuizen bicycle route leads you through a varied landscape of streams, an old water mill, forests and rolling fields with beautiful panoramic views. The route leads through areas on both sides of the Apeldoorns Kanaal."
