Visitors rave about the Groesbeekse Bos, particularly its stunning autumnal beauty with vibrant colors and the unique scent of decay. The forest offers a peaceful escape, ideal for nature lovers and photographers. "Autumn reigns everywhere, leaving its mark on everything around us. A torment for many, but for me, the highlight of the year. I love the smell of rot, decay, and decay, constantly surprised by the indescribable beauty it all brings. Deep, dark black on the wet, glistening bark of the trees, endless shades of color on the leaves that are ever so slightly different every day. I daren't even mention the almost lustful, voluptuous, exciting metamorphoses that mushrooms conjure up for us. Their underground web of threads, a connectedness we can't match, a dark, sinister universe for us.
Heavy rain showers during the night, gradually drying up as the morning progresses. Around two o'clock, I can set out today, to the Grote Groesbeekse Bos (Great Groesbeek Forest). From the nature campsite, now empty, I walk uphill, wandering deeper and deeper into the forest along sandy paths. There's not a soul in sight, only the silence of an autumnal, wet forest that, as if in a dream, tempts me to surrender to this world of colors, scents, mold, decay, and slow decay, disappearance.
Strange creatures appear, emerging from bushes, piles of leaves, piled branches, beautiful barks that have detached from trees and shamelessly reveal their deep red interiors. I only have to look to see that there's much I still know little about."
