Reviews Summary
De Kanselarij is a beautiful historic building with a rich past, appreciated for its architecture and symbolic statues. While it serves as a venue for various modern events and workshops, some visitors have noted comfort issues with seating and facilities during these events. It's important to distinguish it from the Fries Museum, as it functions as a foundation for different activities.
"Built in 1566 and served multiple functions. It was a local governance building, a fire station and the Frysian Museum.
One of its features is the stepped gable with nine statues. The top image, a male figure, represents divine providence (providentia Dei). This statue wears a papal tiara on its head. In the left hand it bears the orb as a sign of power of Him who reigns and in the right hand the scepter of world government.
The other eight statues are female figures. To the left stand from top to bottom: righteousness (iustitia), blindfolded with sword and scales; charity (charity) with child; hope (spes) with anchor; faith (fides) with cross and book. To the right stand from top to bottom: mind (prudentia), with mirror and snake; bravery (fortitudo); temperance (temperantia), with pitcher; unity (concordia), with cornucopia.
At the nieuwe kanselaarij, workshops and courses are held"

"We thought this was the Fries Museum. It's the Kanselarij Foundation. We were kindly greeted by a young man who told us that this hadn't been the Fries Museum for quite a while. I hadn't been here in a while either. Ultimately, it served its purpose."
